ATLANTA — Albany State University, Benedict College and Kentucky State University will all represent the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the 2025 NCAA Division II Football Playoff.
At the conclusion of week 11, the selection committee ranked the teams in the top eight spots of Super Region Two for a chance to compete for the national title.
Albany State, the 2025 SIAC Football Champions, finished the season at No. 1 in the region after going undefeated against opponents in the region. The Golden Rams will host No. 8 Valdosta State University in the first round.
Benedict’s late rally in the SIAC championship game came up short, but the Tigers will live to fight another week after their resume landed them at No. 5 in the region. The team’s only two losses this season, and in the region, came against Albany State. The 2025 SIAC runner-up will travel to No. 4 Wingate University for the first round of the playoffs.
Kentucky State ended conference play just shy of appearing in the SIAC championship game, after losing the conference opponent win percentage tiebreaker to Benedict by less than one-tenth of a decimal point. However, the SIAC and Conference Carolinas week 11 agreement gave the Thorobreds the opportunity to play meaningful football against Shorter University in lieu of the championship game. Kentucky State’s only loss in region play came from Albany State in week one, and the team picked up its eighth region win against Shorter on Saturday. This impressive run propelled the Thorobreds to No. 6 in the region, and they will face Newberry College on the road in the first round of the playoffs.

“Congratulations to our member institutions that earned spots in NCAA Division II football playoff bracket,” said SIAC Commissioner Anthony Holloman. “When I assumed the role as SIAC Commissioner in Fall 2022, I wanted to raise the national profile of our programs. My first step toward the goal was eliminating our football divisions beginning in the 2023 season. That same year, we negotiated an agreement with Conference Carolinas to schedule two additional countable games within our region to improve the strength of schedule for two of our teams in Week 11. This work has proved to be impactful, and I am excited to watch our institutions compete on a national stage.”
Ticketing and gameday information will be available on our institution’s respective athletic websites in the coming days.
