SIAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors: Dec. 23

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Women's Basketball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Dec. 23, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week. Na'Haviya Paxton and Sariah Johnson of Albany State University were recognized.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – NA'HAVIYA PAXTON, ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY

Paxton had a strong and consistent performance for the Lady Golden Rams throughout the week, playing a crucial role in conference victories over Johnson C. Smith, Allen, and Benedict. She led Albany State with a game-high 23 points against Allen, demonstrating an efficient shooting display while also contributing significantly on the boards and defensively. Following that standout performance, she added nine points and five rebounds in a tightly contested win against Benedict, where her key plays were instrumental. Overall, Paxton’s ability to score, defend, and lead during critical moments helped propel Albany State’s extended winning streak.

Johnson continued to showcase her skills with impressive performances against Johnson C. Smith, Allen, and Benedict. Throughout the week, Johnson dominated the paint, highlighted by a double-digit rebounding effort against Allen and a nine-rebound performance against Benedict. Her physical presence, consistent rebounding, and strong defensive play provided Albany State with a formidable interior presence. Additionally, she contributed crucial scoring when necessary. Johnson's steady development and ability to make an impact on both ends of the court have been evident.
