SIAC Men's Basketball Preview: Feb. 13

ATLANTA — The SIAC men’s basketball schedule features a slate of divisional conference games in the next week. Here's a list of the matchups and where to watch the games.

CLARK ATLANTA
vs. Edward Waters – SIAC Network
Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. ET

vs. Savannah State – SIAC Network
Monday, Feb. 17, at 8 p.m. ET

Clark Atlanta (15-8, 12-4 SIAC) will host divisional foes Edward Waters (16-7, 12-4 SIAC) and Savannah State (10-10, 8-8 SIAC) this week. The Panthers played it close against both teams earlier this season, dropping a 52-50 defensive showdown at Savannah State and edging Edward Waters 63-61 on the road.

Clark Atlanta climbed to the top of the east division standings last week, defeating Fort Valley State 79-75 and winning 83-75 at Albany State.

Senior forward Martez Jones led the Panthers with an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double against the Wildcats. Senior guard Jalen Williams put up a game-high 24 points against Albany State, helping CAU to its 15th win of the season.

EDWARD WATERS
at Clark Atlanta – SIAC Network

Edward Waters (16-7, 12-4 SIAC) will turn its attention back to Clark Atlanta (15-8, 12-4 SIAC) and Morehouse (13-11, 10-6 SIAC) this week. EWU topped Morehouse 70-66 in January and lost 63-61 to Clark Atlanta.

Edward Waters maintained its position at second in the east division after going 2-0 on the road last week. The Tigers defeated Allen 84-57 on Saturday and slid past Benedict in a 75-73 clash on Monday.

Junior guard Prince Davies III led the Tigers with 36 points across the two games, registering a game-high 17 points at Allen and contributing 19 in the victory over Benedict.

ALBANY STATE

Albany State (14-9, 11-5 SIAC) will host Benedict (4-19, 4-12 SIAC) and Allen (5-15, 2-13 SIAC). The Golden Rams hope for a regular-season sweep against both teams, having defeated Allen 76-63 and Benedict 74-64 in January.

Albany State fell to third place in the east division after losses to Morehouse and Clark Atlanta last week. The Golden Rams suffered an 83-79 loss to the Maroon Tigers on Saturday and 83-75 loss to Clark Atlanta on Monday, snapping their five-game win streak.

Senior point guard G’Shan Aldridge led Albany State across the two games, dropping 22 points against Morehouse and contributing 17 against Clark Atlanta.

MOREHOUSE

Morehouse (13-11, 10-6 SIAC) will take on Tuskegee (10-12, 8-8 SIAC) in the 2025 NBA HBCU Classic presented by AT&T at Oakland Arena on Saturday as a part of NBA All-Star Weekend. The Maroon Tigers will return to action on Tuesday against Edward Waters (16-7, 12-4 SIAC) at home.

Morehouse maintained its position at fourth in the east division after a 1-1 road stretch, to include a 83-79 overtime victory at Albany State and a 66-64 loss at Fort Valley State.

Senior forward Amahn Decker matched a game-high 23 points to power Morehouse in the triumph over Albany State. Sophomore guard Cedric Taylor III had a double-double 19-point, 10-rebound performance at Fort Valley State, earning him SIAC Player of the Week honors.

FORT VALLEY STATE

Fort Valley State (9-14, 8-8 SIAC) returns to action against Allen (5-15, 2-13 SIAC) and Benedict (4-19, 4-12 SIAC) at home this week. The Wildcats won 65-52 at Benedict and 72-68 at Allen earlier in the season.

Fort Valley State fell 79-75 to Clark Atlanta on Saturday and rebounded with a 66-64 victory over Morehouse on Monday to remain fifth in the east division.

Junior forward Sayerr Senghore led the Wildcats with a game-high 19 points against Clark Atlanta, and senior forward Antonio Puaauli-Pelham notched a game-high with 25 points in the victory over Morehouse.

Savannah State (10-10, 8-8 SIAC) kicks off its two-game tour this week, facing Clark Atlanta (15-8, 12-4 SIAC) on Monday and Allen (6-15, 2-13 SIAC) on Wednesday. The Tigers defeated both teams in their previous meetings this season, edging Clark Atlanta, 52-50, and winning 68-63 against Allen.

Savannah State went 2-0 at home last week, with a 64-49 Homecoming victory over Benedict and a 68-63 win over Allen to maintain sixth-place in the east division. Senior guard Ayjay Plain led the SSU with 26 points across the two victories, scoring 12 points against Benedict and contributing 14 against Allen.

Benedict (4-19, 4-12 SIAC), seventh in the east division, will face Albany State (14-9, 11-5 SIAC) and Fort Valley State (9-14, 8-8 SIAC) on the road. The Tigers are looking to break even against the two teams this season having lost 65-52 to Fort Valley State and 74-64 to Albany State in January.

Benedict dropped a pair of divisional matchups last week, falling 64-49 at Savannah State and 75-73 at Edward Waters, extending its losing streak to four.

Despite the losses, junior guard Caleb Hymon showed up for the Tigers again this week, scoring 34 points across the two contests. Hymon had a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double game at Savannah State and notched a game-high 21 points at Edward Waters.

Allen (5-15, 2-13 SIAC), eighth in the east division, will face Fort Valley State (9-14, 8-8 SIAC) and Albany State (14-9, 11-5 SIAC) away before returning home to welcome Savannah State on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets lost to the three opponents earlier this season and hope to have a better showing this week.

Allen went 1-2 last week, losing 84-57 at Edward Waters and 68-63 at Savannah State. The Yellow Jackets rebounded with a 97-54 victory over Carolina Christian (NCCAA) on Thursday at home.

Redshirt sophomore forward Jordan Edmond led Allen with 36 points across the three games, scoring 11 points at Edward Waters before registering a game-high 17 at Savannah State and contributing 8 in the victory over Carolina Christian.

MILES

Miles (19-3, 15-1 SIAC) will travel to LeMoyne-Owen (4-19, 4-12 SIAC) as the team inches closer to clinching the No. 1 seed. The Golden Bears dominated the Magicians 90-59 last month.

Miles maintained its lead in the west division last week with back-to-back victories on the road, edging Tuskegee 56-54 on Saturday and winning 79-63 at Spring Hill on Monday.

Senior guard Alvin Miles led the Golden Bears with 41 points across the victories, amassing a game-high 23 points at Tuskegee before knocking down 18 at Spring Hill, helping Miles to its tenth-straight win.

TUSKEGEE

Tuskegee remains second in the west division despite falling 56-54 to Miles and 65-62 to Lane at home last week. Senior guard D’Anthony Pennington led the Golden Tigers with 27 points across the two contests, scoring 10 points against Miles before contributing 17 against Lane.

Kentucky State (11-10, 8-8 SIAC) returns home to face Spring Hill (8-13, 6-10 SIAC) on Monday. The Thorobreds hope to avenge their 101-84 loss to the Badgers in January.

Kentucky State rose to third in the west division following a 77-71 victory over LeMoyne-Owen last week. With the win, the Thorobreds secured their season sweep over the Magicians.

Senior guard Lavar Miller Jr. and junior guard Aziel Blackwell led KSU with 21 points apiece in the victory.

Central State fell to fourth in the west division after a 69-62 loss to LeMoyne-Owen and 76-62 win over Kent State-Tuscarawas (USCAA). 

Junior guard Brandon Scott led the Marauders with 31 points across the two games, securing a 9-point game at LeMoyne-Owen before registering a game-high 22 points against the Golden Eagles.

Lane suffered a 99-95 loss at Spring Hill and beat Tuskegee 65-62 on Monday to remain sixth in the west division. Junior guard Elijah Greer Dawson led the Dragons with 38 points across the two games, with 20 points at Spring Hill and a game-high 18 points at Tuskegee.

LeMoyne-Owen maintained its position at seventh in the west after splitting a pair of divisional contests last week. The Magicians won 69-62 over Central State on Saturday and fell 77-71 against Kentucky State on Monday at home.

Sophomore guard Khalil Genwright led LeMoyne-Owen with 41 points across the two games, leading all scorers with 21 points against Central State before contributing 20 against Kentucky State.
