ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its SIAC Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 18, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week.
Leah Leonard (
Fort Valley State) and
Kaliyah Smith Barnes (
Albany State) were recognized.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – LEAH LEONARD, FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY

Leonard was hot at the plate in the HBCU Invitational last week. She was 10-of-14 (.714) with six runs, a double, a triple, a home run and seven RBIs. She went 8-of-11 against the three Division I teams in the four contests Fort Valley State played. Leonard finished 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and an RBI in a 5-1 win over Claflin. She then went 2-for-3 with a home run, one run and an RBI against Alabama A&M. Leonard followed with a 4-for-4 effort against Grambling, recording two runs, four RBIs and a triple. She closed the invitational 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI against Southern.

Smith Barnes delivered a standout performance on the mound for Albany State last week. She earned a season-high six innings pitched and five strikeouts in Lady Golden Rams' 14-8 victory over Virginia Union.
