LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The
Morehouse College track and field team clinched the 2025 Cricket SIAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship title on Friday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.
The Maroon Tigers finished the two-day meet with 186.7 points, followed by Benedict in second place with 115.2 points. Tuskegee finished third with 91 points.
Morehouse’s Brian Kemei took home SIAC Men's Track Performer of the Year honors, winning gold in the 5,000-meter (16:44.01) on Thursday and the 3,000-meter (8:56.04) and 1-mile run (4:27.75) on Friday.
Benedict’s Zach Washington earned SIAC Men's Field Performer of the Year honors with first-place finishes in the long jump (7.27 meters; 23-10.25), high jump (2.05 meters; 6-08.75) and triple jump (14.57 meters; 47-09.75).
Legendary Morehouse head coach Willie Hill received the SIAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year award after leading his team to the inaugural conference title.
The Maroon Tigers turned in additional podium appearances in both track and field events:
- Taylor Battle, Brogan Korta, Jermiah Alibey, Owynn Brown placed first in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:45.82.
- Sidney Morris, Jalen Smith, Alibey and Michael Simmons Jr. won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.27.
- Brown won the gold medal in the 800-meter (1:56.20) and took silver in the 1-mile run (4:28.74).
- Simmons finished second in the 400-meter (48.65) and 200-meter (21.39).
- Issiah Simms took home silver in the 3,000-meter (9:39.36).
- Korta placed third in the pole vault (3.80-meters; 12-05.50).
- Dennis Kipruto finished third in the 1-mile run (4:30.99).
- Morris secured bronze in the 400-meter dash (48.68).
