LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The
Tuskegee University women’s track and field team secured the 2025 Cricket SIAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship title on Friday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.
The Golden Tigers finished the two-day meet with 242.5 points, followed by
Benedict in second place with 129 points.
Central State finished third with 115 points.
Tuskegee’s
Anaya Martin took home SIAC Women's Track Performer of the Year honors, finishing first in the 5,000-meter (20:47.71), 3,000-meter (11:42.31) and 1-mile run (5:31.57), while also capturing gold as a member of the distance medley relay team, which recorded a time of 13:36.86. Martin added a silver-medal finish in the 800-meter (2:25.77) on Friday.
Benedict’s
Yassmine Chambers earned SIAC Women's Field Performer of the Year honors with first-place finishes in the weight throw (14.09 meters; 46-02.75) on Thursday and shot put (12.55 meters; 41-02.25) on Friday.
Tuskegee head coach
LaShaunda Easterling was named SIAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after leading her team to the conference title.
The Golden Tigers turned in additional podium appearances in both track and field events:
- Anitria Sangster captured gold in the 200-meter (24.76) and 400-meter (55.51) and finished second in the 60-meter dash (7.71).
- An'Janae Latchinson finished first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.67) and second in the 400-meter dash (56.45).
- Jahkaya McBurney finished first overall in the pentathlon, alongside Amira Broussard, who finished second.
- Akierah Walker took first place in the 800-meter (2:24.95) and second in the 1-mile run (5:45.96).
- Shalyah Tresvant won the silver medal in the 5,000-meter (22:31.70) and bronze in the 3,000-meter (12:48.54).
- Danielle Wilson finished second in the weight throw (13.84 meters).
- De'Shell Carr won silver in the long jump, posting a best mark of 5.34 meters.
- Sangster, McBurney, Latchinson and Broussard captured second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:56.53.
- Genesis Harrell secured second in the 3,000-meter (12:38.62), and third in the 5,000-meter (22:43.21) and 1-mile run (5:50.73).
- Matealia Harper placed third in the pole vault (2.13 meters).
