SIAC Baseball Weekly Honors: March 18

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its SIAC Baseball Players of the Week on Tuesday, March 18, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week. Saul Gonzalez (Lane) and Richard Powell IV (Tuskegee) were recognized.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SAUL GONZALEZ, LANE COLLEGE
Left-Handed Pitcher/Outfielder | Sophomore | Atlanta, Ga.
Gonzalez went 11-17 with 15 RBI, nine runs, five home runs, three doubles, and a walk last week.

12626
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – RICHARD POWELL IV, TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY
Pitcher | Freshman | Atlanta, Ga.
Powell was a workhorse for the Golden Tigers, delivering a complete-game gem in the series opener, propelling Tuskegee to a 12-4 victory. He tossed all nine innings, allowing just four runs (two earned) on 10 hits while striking out two batters and walking two. His efficiency on the mound limited Kentucky State’s opportunities, as he induced key ground ball outs and kept hitters off balance.

Powell’s performance marked the longest outing by a Tuskegee pitcher this season, as he controlled the pace of the game and preserved the bullpen for the rest of the weekend. His ability to go deep into the game provided the Golden Tigers with much-needed stability on the mound.
