ALBANY, Ga. — The
Albany State Lady Golden Rams continued their dominance over Paine College, securing a two-game sweep in their weekend series. With the wins, the Lady Golden Rams improved to 16-9 overall, while the Lady Lions fell to 6-16 on the season. Albany State now looks ahead to their next matchup on April 1 in Tifton, Ga., where they will face Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
GAME 1: ALBANY STATE 4, PAINE COLLEGE 2
In the opening game of the series, Albany State overcame an early deficit to win 4-2 against Paine College. Paine struck first, with Lena Sellam scoring in the first inning and Ana Cobas adding another run in the third. Albany State tied the game in the third on a single by Kady Ayers and a left fielder's error. Rave Dunham's RBI single in the fourth put Albany State ahead, and she added another RBI in the sixth.
Amari Mapps stolen home pushed the score to 4-2. Kaliyah Smith-Barnes secured the win, allowing five hits and no earned runs while striking out two.
GAME 2: ALBANY STATE 9, PAINE COLLEGE 4
In game two, Albany State's offense scored nine runs, capitalizing on Paine College's errors. Paine took a 1-0 lead, but Albany responded with four runs in the first inning, including a sacrifice fly from Fisher. Paine closed the gap to 4-3 with an RBI single from Marina Hinojosa, but Albany extended their lead to 6-3 with a bases-loaded walk from Kady Ayers. Despite Paine adding an unearned run, Albany sealed the game with two unearned runs from Ayers and a solo home run from Fisher, finalizing the score at 9-4.
Trista Murphy earned the win for Albany, allowing only three earned runs as they completed the sweep.
UP NEXT
The Lady Golden Rams will head to Tifton, Ga., on April 1 to face Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. With their momentum building, Albany State looks to continue their strong performance as they push deeper into the season.
