COLUMBIA, S.C. —
T'yannah Lake hit a homer and a double and drove in three runs to help lead the
Benedict College softball team to an 8-2 victory over Claflin in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at Tiger Field.
Claflin won the first game 9-5.
After Clalfin scored a run in the third inning for a 1-0 lead,
Shamaria Dupree led off the bottom of the third with a single. Lake then hit a one-out shot to center field to give the Lady Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Benedict, now 18-20 overall, scored six runs on five hits in the fourth inning. Dupree drove in a run on a bunt single,
Heaven Strickland drove in another run with a single,
Tre'sor Eady drew a bases-loaded walk, and
Hillary Haynes scored Lake with a groundout for an 8-1 lead.
In the first game, Benedict scored a run in the first inning, but Claflin (16-22) took the lead with three runs in the third inning. The Lady Tigers tied the game when
Ariah Smith hit a two-run homer.
Claflin scored four runs on two hits, three walks and a hit batter in the fifth inning. Eady hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5. Claflin scored two runs in the seventh on two hits and two Benedict errors.
The Lady Tigers honored five seniors: Lake, Eady,
Kierra Evans,
Savanna Marshall and
Chelsey Gotel.
Benedict will play a non-conference doubleheader against Livingstone on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Tiger Field.
