COLUMBIA, S.C. — The
Edward Waters softball team dominated both ends of its SIAC road doubleheader against
Allen University Friday afternoon.
Aisha Joy Duncan drove in four runs on two hits to lead EWU past Allen, 17-0. Duncan hit a home run to left field in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring one.
Keivana Durand earned the win for EWU. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out 15 and walking two in five innings. This is Durand's second game with 15 strikeouts this season.
Hailey Vela,
Jamiah Holmes, and
Victoria Miterko at the bottom of Edward Waters' lineup, combined for five of the team's 10 hits in their victory. They scored seven runs and drove in four.
EWU jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after
Calyn Rounsaville drew a walk, scoring one run; a passed ball scored one run; and Miterko doubled, scoring two runs.
The Lady Tigers added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Duncan singled down the left-field line and EWU scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.
Edward Waters added to its early lead in the top of the third inning when Miterko drew a walk, scoring one run. Holmes doubled, scoring two runs, and Rounsaville drew a walk, scoring one run.
Duncan homered to left field, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth for the EWU.
No. 7 hitter Miterko showed the depth of EWU’s lineup by leading the team with three hits in three at-bats. Edward Waters had patience at the plate, accumulating 10 walks. Rounsaville,
Laura Scott, and Vela led the team with two bases on balls each.
Kylah Gardner, Scott, and Holmes each stole multiple bases for EWU. The Lady Tigers ran wild on the base paths, tallying 10 stolen bases for the game.
In the doubleheader finale, Scott drove in four runs on one hit to lead Edward Waters past Allen, 15-6. Scott doubled in the third inning, scoring three runs, and hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, scoring one.
EWU got on the board in the top of the first inning after
Brooke Rice hit a sacrifice fly, and the Lady Tigers scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
EWU added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after
Jamiah Holmes doubled to center field,
Olivia Friedel singled to the right side of the infield, and
Kylah Gardner grounded out, each scoring one run.
The Lady Tigers added three runs in the third after Scott doubled down the left-field line.
Edward Waters scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Holmes singled, scoring two runs, Gardner singled, scoring two runs, and
Jodee Matos drew a walk, scoring one run.
Allen scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. An error scored one run, an error scored one run, and a steal of home scored three runs.
Riley Kapparis earned the win for EWU. The hurler gave up six hits and six runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking one.
Holmes, EWU's number nine hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Edward Waters had patience at the plate, piling up 12 walks for the game.
Miah Jordan and Scott led the team with three walks each. Jordan and Holmes each stole multiple bases for EWU as the Lady Tigers stole eight bases in the game.
