Edward Waters’ Jones Caps Season With Honors, HBCU All-Stars Selection

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edward Waters University designated hitter Torry Jones made his senior season one to remember, earning prestigious honors and securing a spot in the 2025 Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game.

Jones was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II All-South Region second team as a designated hitter only a few days after learning of his selection to the All-Star lineup. The selection places Jones among the top 44 HBCU baseball prospects in the nation.

Last month, Jones was crowned 2025 SIAC Player of the Year and was named to the All-SIAC first team as a designated hitter. He also received recognition from the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association, landing on its All-South Region second team. Additionally, Jones was named EWU Baseball MVP and received the James Day Scholar Athlete of the Year Award at the EWU ROAR Awards, presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrate exceptional performance, leadership and dedication both on the field and in the community.

A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Jones was a cornerstone of the Tigers' offense throughout the season. He appeared in all 53 games, finishing with a .354 batting average, 73 hits, 58 runs and 59 RBIs in 206 at-bats. He launched 11 home runs and drew 36 walks, showcasing power, consistency and plate discipline. His standout performances earned him SIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors on two occasions during the 2025 season.

"Torry has been a tremendous leader for our program," said Assistant AD For Internal Operations and Head Baseball Coach Reginald Johnson, II. "His work ethic, passion for the game, and ability to perform in big moments truly set him apart. He has earned every bit of this recognition."

Jones’ selection to the HBCU All-Star Game further solidifies his status among the nation's elite HBCU athletes and reflects the high standard of excellence upheld by Edward Waters Athletics.

The 2025 Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game is set for Saturday, May 31, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, at Atrium Health Ballpark.
