ATLANTA —
Morehouse College welcomed its newest wave of students to campus today with a refreshing surprise, thanks to a spirited partnership between Walmart and Morehouse Athletics. As students arrived for Move-In Day, Walmart representatives were on hand distributing coupons and popsicles to help ease the transition and beat the Georgia heat.
The initiative, designed to support students and families during one of the busiest days of the academic year, included exclusive Walmart coupons for dorm essentials, groceries, and back-to-school supplies. But it was the cool treats that stole the show, offering a moment of relief and celebration amid the hustle of unpacking and settling in. Joining Director of Athletics
Harold Ellis '92 in passing out popsicles and coupons were the captains of the cheerleading squad.
"This is what community looks like. Walmart's presence today added a layer of hospitality and care that our students and families truly appreciated," stated Morehouse Director of Athletics
Harold Ellis '92. "This partnership is about more than just savings—it's about showing our students that they're supported from day one. Walmart's involvement adds a layer of care and convenience that makes a real difference."
The partnership doesn't end here. Walmart will return this Saturday for round two, once again handing out coupons and popsicles to students who arrive later in the week. The timing aligns with the final wave of campus arrivals and offers a chance for families to stock up on last-minute necessities. The effort reflects a growing commitment from corporate partners to engage with HBCUs in meaningful, student-centered ways.
With the fall semester just around the corner, Morehouse College and Walmart are proving that a little generosity—and a lot of popsicles—can go a long way in building community and school spirit.
