SIAC Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors: Sept. 30

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Women's Volleyball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 30, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in matches played last week. Jarianis Perez (Albany State), Talia Smith (Albany State), Monica Vargo (Spring Hill), and Claire Hayes (Spring Hill) were recognized.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JARIANIS PEREZ, ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY
Outside Hitter | Junior | Jacksonville, Fla.
Junior outside hitter Jarianis Perez powered Albany State’s offense throughout the SIAC Crossover, finishing as one of the tournament’s top attackers. Perez recorded double-digit kills in multiple matches, consistently finding ways to score against tough conference opponents. Her ability to put pressure on opposing defenses and deliver timely points fueled the Golden Rams’ success.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – TALIA SMITH, ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY
Defensive Specialist | Senior | Fairburn, Ga.
Defensive specialist Talia Smith anchored the Albany State back row with her outstanding defensive effort during the SIAC Crossover. Smith registered match-high dig totals while keeping rallies alive with her quick reactions and strong court coverage. Her ability to read opposing hitters and limit scoring opportunities provided a steady defensive foundation.

SETTER OF THE WEEK – MONICA VARGO, SPRING HILL COLLEGE
Setter | Graduate | Fogelsville, Pa.
The SIAC's leading setter, Vargo, opened the conference slate with three 30-plus assist performances in four matches at the crossover event hosted by Albany State. She also tallied 16 assists against Clark Atlanta. Vargo's highlight came against Edward Waters, where she put up a match-leading 34 assists.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – CLAIRE HAYES, SPRING HILL COLLEGE
Middle Blocker | Senior | Robertsdale, Ala.
Hayes had a strong start to SIAC play at the conference crossover event hosted by Albany State. The senior middle hitter tallied double-digit kill performances against three of four opponents this weekend. Hayes closed out the weekend with 13 kills against Edward Waters. She continues to lead the SIAC with 374 kills and an average of 3.65 per set.
