ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Women's Basketball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 27, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week.
Aaliyah Lawrence (
Benedict) and
Samarian Franklin (
Miles) were recognized.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – AALIYAH LAWRENCE, BENEDICT COLLEGE

Lawrence had a big week to help Benedict go 2-1. In a close one-point loss to Edward Waters, Lawrence led Benedict with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. In a victory over Central State, Lawrence scored a team-high 15 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, had 4 steals and 1 block. Then in a victory over Kentucky State, Lawrence scored 12 points, while grabbing 7 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. For the week, Lawrence averaged 16 points on .306 shooting, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 1.3 blocks.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – SAMARIAN FRANKLIN, MILES COLLEGE
Guard | Freshman | Birmingham, Ala.
Franklin averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals as the Lady Bears won two games. In a win at Fort Valley State, Franklin set a career-high in points (23) and 3-point field goals (4). She had a career-high 10 assists in a road loss at Clark Atlanta. She also added 18 points in a win at Spring Hill, which was her previous career high before the FVSU contest.
