Benedict's Nwokocha Named to D2Football.com Elite 100

COLUMBIA, S.C.Benedict College senior defensive lineman Israel Nwokocha was recently named to the D2football.com Top 100, earning first-team honors.
 
This is the latest in a long line of post-season awards for Nwokocha. He was named first-team All-SIAC at defensive line after a stellar season that saw him rank first in the SIAC and fourth in NCAA Division II in tackles for loss with 2.50 per game. He also ranked first in the SIAC and 11th nationally in sacks, averaging 1.25 per game. He finished the season with 77 total tackles (40 solo, 37 assisted), 30 tackles for loss for -119 yards, and 12 sacks for -83 yards.
 
Along with being named All-SIAC, Nwokocha other post-season honors include being a finalist for HBCU Defensive Player of the Year by HBCU Go, as well as an honorable mention HBCU All-American, and All-Region Super Region Two by the Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA).
 
The Elite 100 is D2Football.com's version of an All-America team. Players are selected by staff members of D2Football.com with input from sitting head coaches as well as professional football scouting veteran Josh Buchanan. The team includes first and second team selections for offense, defense and special teams along with 25 "Squad" players for offense and defense. Squad players are equivilent to "honorable mention" selections in similar national recognition lists.
