ATLANTA — More than 100 student-athletes from
Morehouse College and
Clark Atlanta University traded the playing field for professional development Oct. 13, gathering at Morehouse for a career readiness workshop designed to help them turn their collegiate experiences into opportunities beyond athletics.
The “First Impression: Pitch and Presence Workshop” brought together the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Morehouse College and Southern Company to equip student-athletes with practical skills in professional communication, personal branding, networking and career preparation.
Hosted by Morehouse College’s Frederick Douglass Academic Success Center in collaboration with Morehouse Career Development & Engagement, the workshop focused on helping student-athletes make strong first impressions, develop effective elevator pitches and communicate their strengths to prospective employers.
Participants engaged in discussions and activities emphasizing interview preparation, professional presentation and the importance of building meaningful connections. The workshop also encouraged student-athletes to recognize how the leadership, teamwork, discipline and time management skills developed through collegiate athletics can translate into professional success.
The turnout highlighted the commitment of Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University to student-athlete development and the value of collaboration among SIAC member institutions and corporate partners.
The initiative supports the SIAC’s broader emphasis on preparing student-athletes for success beyond competition by expanding access to professional development, leadership opportunities and career resources.
Southern Company’s participation further demonstrated the importance of corporate engagement in connecting student-athletes with professional expertise and opportunities for future growth.
The SIAC recognized the teams at Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University for their leadership and coordination of the event, along with Southern Company and the participating professionals for their contributions.
The conference continues to collaborate with its member institutions and corporate partners to strengthen career readiness initiatives and provide student-athletes with resources to succeed during college and after graduation.
