INDIANAPOLIS — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference maintained its hold on the top three positions in Super Region Two as the NCAA released its updated Division II football NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings Sunday, Oct. 25.
Kentucky State moved into the No. 1 position, followed by
Edward Waters at No. 2 and
Benedict at No. 3, while
Central State climbed three spots to No. 5, giving the SIAC four programs among the region’s top five.
Kentucky State rose from No. 2 in the inaugural Oct. 18 rankings to claim the region’s top position with a 61.422 NPI and a 7-1 Division II record. Edward Waters followed with a 60.860 NPI and a 5-1 record, while Benedict retained its No. 3 position with a 60.251 NPI and a 7-1 record. The three programs also rank among the top 15 nationally, with Kentucky State at No. 10, Edward Waters at No. 13 and Benedict at No. 15.
Beyond the top three, Central State advanced from No. 8 to No. 5 with a 58.731 NPI, placing the Marauders at No. 20 nationally.
Tuskegee also moved into the regional top 10, climbing one position to No. 10 with a 53.394 NPI. The movement gives the SIAC five programs among Super Region Two’s top 10, compared with four in the previous rankings.
Miles followed at No. 13, while
Morehouse made one of the conference’s largest gains, advancing five positions to No. 16.
Clark Atlanta (No. 21),
Albany State (No. 23),
Fort Valley State (No. 25),
Allen (No. 26),
Lane (No. 29) and
Savannah State (No. 30) rounded out the conference’s representation in the 33-team regional standings.
Introduced for Division II football in 2026, the NCAA’s NPI system replaces the traditional regional ranking process and evaluates teams based on game results and strength of schedule. The system establishes national rankings while continuing to reflect each team’s standing within its region for NCAA championship consideration.
The NPI will be updated each Sunday for the remainder of the season until the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, Nov. 15. The final rankings will not be posted publicly Nov. 15 until after the Selection Show.
