ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Men's Basketball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 10, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week.
Najashi Tolefree (
Miles) and
Jarrell Love (
Lane) were recognized.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – NAJASHI TOLEFREE, MILES COLLEGE
Forward | Senior | Milwaukee, Wis.
Tolefree posted double-doubles in both games for the Golden Bears, averaging 19 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals. In a win at Benedict, he had 18 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. He scored seven of Miles' final nine points over a three-and-a-half minute span to quell a Tigers' comeback. Against Allen, he scored 20 points and tied his season-high with 12 rebounds. He had eight points down the stretch to help seal the victory. It was his ninth game with at least 20 points and he now has six double-doubles this season.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – JARRELL LOVE, LANE COLLEGE
Guard | Senior | Dallas, Texas
Love delivered a strong two-game stretch for Lane last week, finishing with back-to-back double-doubles while helping the Dragons split a pair of SIAC matchups. In the loss to Clark Atlanta, Love logged 39 minutes and led with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, adding 12 rebounds and two assists. He also recorded one block and two steals while going 4-of-6 at the free-throw line. Love followed with a strong performance in Lane’s win over Morehouse. In 40 minutes of play, Love tallied in 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 at the line and one shot from three. He added 10 rebounds, four assists and chipped in one steal.
