Kentucky State Edges Midway in Five Sets

MIDWAY, Ky.  Kentucky State men's volleyball uses efficient fifth set to outlast Midway 3-2, to secure a series sweep over the Eagles. 

Nine kills and two errors, led Kentucky State to an efficient hitting percentage of .350 in the fifth set, compared to a .056 hitting percentage from Midway. 

The Thorobreds stood the test edging the Eagles 113-107 in total points for the match. 

Kentucky State was led by the big three, Charles AbabioJackson Moffitt and Jamal Gray. Ababio led the match with 22 kills and accounted for nearly half of the Thorobreds 50 kills. Moffitt recorded a double-double of 42 assists and 11 digs. Gray anchored the back row with a match-high of 19 digs. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 25-24 in the first set, the Thorobreds were able to escape with a 27-26 win on a pair of errors from the eagles. 
 
After dropping the second set and being at an early disadvantage in the third set a Kentucky State run was sparked by Jamir Patterson that led to a third set win. 
 
Midway would force the match into a fifth set as they took the fourth set 25-23. 

With the fifth set tied 5-5, the Thorobreds found a four point run led by both Gray and Patterson to take a 9-5 lead, forcing an Eagles' timeout that iced the match and seuring a 3-2 Kentucky State win. 

UP NEXT
Home play will continue for the Thorobreds as they host both Oakland City and Division I opponent Maryland Eastern Shores on Friday, February 13 beginning at 2 p.m. inside of the Exum Center.
