MACON, Ga. —
Albany State softball delivered an impressive showing on the road Friday, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Wesleyan College with victories of 8-4 in Game 1 and 11-2 in Game 2.
In the opener, Wesleyan struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Albany State steadily seized control as the game progressed. The Lady Golden Rams broke through in the fourth inning, plating three runs to take the lead. A key extra-base hit by
Mackenzie Nervis sparked the rally, followed by timely contributions from
Amari Mapps and
Kyla Fitch. Nervis turned in a dominant performance at the plate, driving in five runs on four hits, including a clutch two-run single in the fifth inning and a towering home run in the seventh. Albany State's offense produced 13 hits in the contest, with
Erielle Reid, Avrey Fisher, Fitch, and Abbi Jones each contributing to the balanced attack.
Kenzie Fitch was outstanding in the circle for Albany State, allowing just five hits and one run across six strong innings. Her command and poise kept Wesleyan's offense in check and allowed the Lady Golden Rams to maintain momentum throughout the game.
Albany State carried that energy into Game 2, erupting for six runs in the opening inning to immediately set the tone. Olivia Mason,
Amari Mapps,
Mackenzie Nervis, and Kaylee Oliver fueled the early surge as the Lady Golden Rams capitalized on disciplined at-bats and aggressive baserunning. The lead continued to grow in the third inning behind RBI singles from
Kaylah Howard, Abbi Jones, and Avrey Fisher, while Mason added to the advantage with a productive fielder's choice.
Avery Fisher paced Albany State's offense with a flawless 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Nervis and Mason each drove in two runs, highlighting another complete team effort. In the circle,
Kye Gordon delivered a steady outing, allowing two hits and two runs (one earned) over 4.2 innings to secure the win.
