SIAC Softball Weekly Honors: Feb. 3

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 3, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week. Hailey Vela and Riley Kapparis of Edward Waters University were recognized.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – HAILEY VELA, EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY
Infielder | Senior | Flower Mound, Texas
Vela delivered a strong showing for the Edward Waters softball team, helping lead the Lady Tigers to a four-game series sweep over Baptist University of Fla. Over the weekend, Vela recorded seven hits and nine RBIs, with one double, one home run, seven runs scored and five stolen bases while batting .636 with a 1.000 slugging percentage and 11 total bases in 11 at-bats. She also drew one walk. Defensively, Vela totaled five putouts with one assist over the four-game series.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – RILEY KAPPARIS, EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY
Pitcher/Infielder | Sophomore | Yulee, Fla.
Kapparis has a terrific outing for the Edward Waters softball team, helping lead the Lady Tigers to the four-game series sweep over Baptist University of Fla. and picking up her first two complete-game victories of the season in the circle. Kapparis saw 11.0 total innings of action, striking out seven batters while only allowing eight hits, three runs, two earned runs, with no walks and a 1.27 ERA. The sophomore from Yulee, Fla., faced 42 batters in total.
