TUSKEGEE, Ala. — The
Tuskegee Golden Tigers baseball team opened the 2026 season with a split against Tougaloo College on Tuesday afternoon at Washington Field, dropping the opener 5-1 before bouncing back with a 4-2 victory in Game two of the doubleheader.
Tougaloo 5, Tuskegee 1
Tougaloo struck first in the opening inning with a solo home run to left field to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage. Tuskegee answered in the bottom of the frame when
Terry Ware tied the game with a solo homer to left, knotting the score at 1-1.
The game remained tight until Tougaloo broke through in the third inning, using a sacrifice fly and capitalizing on defensive miscues to regain the lead. The Bulldogs then put the game out of reach with a three-run fifth inning, scoring on a two-RBI error and a fielder's choice to push the margin to 5-1.
Tuskegee collected three hits in the opener, led by Ware's home run and a triple from
Stephon Wright. On the mound,
Richard Powell IV worked 4.1 innings, striking out seven, while
Lorenzo Baileyprovided solid relief with 2.2 scoreless innings.
Tuskegee 4, Tougaloo 2
The Golden Tigers responded in Game 2 with timely hitting and a strong pitching performance from
Christian Baker.
Tuskegee opened the scoring in the first inning when
Jacobi Brooks tripled to right field, plating Ware for a 1-0 lead. Tougaloo briefly pulled even in the second, but Tuskegee reclaimed momentum in the third inning with back-to-back run-scoring plays from
Ryan Morrow and
Jabari Johnson, pushing the Tigers ahead 3-2.
The decisive run came in the fourth inning when Ware doubled to left field, driving in
Collin McLain to make it 4-2. Baker took over from there, retiring hitters consistently and keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Baker went the distance, tossing seven innings while striking out 12 and allowing just two runs to earn the win. Offensively, Ware, Brooks, Morrow, and Johnson each recorded RBIs as Tuskegee finished with eight hits in the nightcap.
