COLUMBIA, S.C. – The
Benedict College indoor track & field teams wrapped up their regular season over the weekend at the Carolina Classic and set two more school records, as well as setting new personal best records.
The men and women got off to a great start on Friday in day one of the Carolina Classic at the South Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Yassmine Chambers finished second in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 13.77 meters (45 feet, 2 ¼ inches).
Isabella McKinney had her season best performance in the same event with a throw of 12.23 meters (40 feet, 1 ½ inches) to finish sixth.
Gabrielle Pinder set a personal record in the 60 meters, running 7.76.
For the men, newcomer Mondell Hutto set the tone finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.79 meters (48 feet, 6 ¼ inches).
- Jacobie Sims advanced to the semifinals in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.58.
- David Smith had a great opener in the 60-meter dash advancing to the semifinals running 6.92.
- Morris Walker and DuShaun Tucker placed in the men weight throw. Walker had a season best of 12.82 meters (42 feet, ¾ inches), while Tucker threw 12.5 meters (41 feet, ¼ inch).
On Saturday, highlights included:
- Zack Washington broke his school record in the long jump, taking first place with a jump of 7.7 meters (25 feet, 3 ¼ inches). That mark is currently second-best in NCAA Division II.
- Washington also finished third in the men's high jump with a jump of 2.02 meters (6 feet, 7 ½ inches).
- Tucker set a school record in the men's shot put, recording a mark of 14.98 meters (49 feet, 1 ¾ inches) to finish fifth overall.
- Anaiya Houseal finished fourth in the women's high jump with a jump of 1.53 meters (5 feet, ¼ inch).
- Chambers finished fourth in the women's shot put with a mark of 12.2 meters (40 feet, ½ inch).
The track teams will compete in the SIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship in Louisville, Ky., Feb. 18-20.
