SIAC Softball Weekly Honors: March 31

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday, March 31, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week. Meadow Villar (Spring Hill) and Riley Kapparis (Edward Waters) were recognized.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MEADOW VILLAR, SPRING HILL COLLEGE
Third Base | R-Senior | Dallas, Ga.
Villar turned in a strong week at the plate, leading Spring Hill to a split doubleheader against Mississippi College and an SIAC series sweep of Lane. She opened the week going 2 for 3 with three RBI and a double against Mississippi College, then followed with another 2 for 3 effort, including a double, in Game 2. Villar carried that production into conference play, finishing 3 for 4 with an RBI in the series opener against Lane. She added a 3 for 3 performance with two runs, two RBI and a double in Game 2, then closed the week 2 for 3 with a run and a stolen base in the finale. For the week, Villar hit .750 (12 for 16) with six RBI and three doubles while committing no fielding errors. She is batting .478 overall and .529 in conference play.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – RILEY KAPPARIS, EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY
Pitcher/Infielder | Sophomore | Yulee, Fla.
Kapparis turned in a strong weekend in the circle, leading Edward Waters to a 2-1 SIAC road series win over Benedict. She logged 17.2 innings, recording 21 strikeouts while allowing eight earned runs on 14 hits. Kapparis went 2-1 on the weekend, improving to 11-5 on the season. She also surpassed 100 strikeouts for the season during the series.
