GARDENDALE, Ala. — The
Miles softball team stayed hot in conference play. sweeping its second straight series with three big wins over
Kentucky State. The Lady Bears hit three home runs and got solid pitching in the circle to earn wins by the scores of 10-0, 6-2, and 12-4 on Sunday and Monday at Bill Noble Park.
Miles swept a doubleheader on the Sunday, with the Game 1 star being pitcher
Delaney Gray, who gave up just one hit and struck out 10 in the run-rule victory. The Lady Bears led 4-0 after two innings with just one of the runs scoring via a base hit. They broke the game open during a six-run fourth inning which came courtesy of five consecutive extra base hits with one out. Daisy Bejerano doubled to score
Andrea Harris,
Jada Odom followed with a triple.
Mia Vazquez,
Trenity Okedele and Garcia all doubled in succession before Gray singled in the final run.
In the nightcap, Miles did not wait to bring the fireworks. Bejerano hit the second pitch in the bottom of the first out of the park to center to put the Lady Bears on the board. A sacrifice fly by Okedele added another run before Garcia belted a two-run homer to center for a 4-0 advantage. That was more than enough for
Gracey Adkins, who allowed five hits and two runs while striking out five in earning the complete-game win.
Okedele did most of the damage in the final game on Monday, driving in six runs as the Lady Bears earned another run-rule win. Miles trailed 1-0 in the first but got the run back on a RBI groundout by Okedele. A five-run second inning put Miles in the driver's seat. Bejerano and Odom earned bases-loaded walks before Okedele cleared the bags with a double for a 6-1 lead. After KSU cut the deficit to 6-3, the big first baseman put her final stamp on the game with a opposite-field two-run blast to right, which ignited a six-run fourth inning.
Jada Bradford and Bejerano had run-scoring singles that sandwiched a two-run single by
Andrea Harris.
Anndria Kay pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win in the circle that evened the Lady Bears' overall record at 19-19.
Miles is back in action on Apr. 7 when it hosts West Alabama. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.
