DAYTON, Ohio — Not only did
Kentucky State men's golf earn back-to-back tournament wins, taking the
Central State Spring Tournament by a 39-stroke lead, but
Ryan Courtney also earned his first collegiate victory, capturing the individual title.
As a unit, the Thorobreds took charge early with a first-round team total of 310 and extended their dominance even more, improving by 12 strokes in the final round for a 398 total.
Building off the momentum from the Midway Spring Invitational, Courtney opened the first round of the tournament with a 5-over-par 76. He then fired a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to claim the individual title with a two-stroke lead.
Teammate
Robert Johnson took third after an opening-round 76, improving by one stroke in the final round with a 75 for a 151-tournament total.
Three Thorobreds also finished inside the top 10, led by
Jean-Marc Chevrotiere with a 79 in the first round and a 78 in the final round. Both
Garrison Barton and
Brady Hensley finished tied for eighth. Barton made the most improvement in the tournament, improving by 10 strokes with a final-round 75 after an opening-round 85. Hensley opened the tournament with a 79 and shot an 81 in the final round.

The Thorobreds are now preparing for the SIAC Championship as they head to Tunica, Mississippi, April 20-22.
