ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Baseball Players of the Week on Tuesday, April 14, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week.

Cameron Simmons (
Morehouse) were recognized.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JATNIER TORRES, SPRING HILL COLLEGE
Infielder | Junior | Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico
Torres turned in one of the top offensive performances for the Badgers last week. Torres opened the week with two RBI in a midweek nonconference win over Mobile before erupting in conference play against Kentucky State, where he went 10-for-14 (.714) with three home runs, two doubles and 10 RBI. He reached base at a .778 clip and scored nine runs in the series. On the week, Torres batted .611 with a 1.278 slugging percentage and .682 on-base percentage, totaling 11 hits, 12 RBI and nine runs scored across 18 at-bats. He added three doubles, three home runs and four walks, consistently driving offense and extending innings.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – CAMERON SIMMONS, MOREHOUSE COLLEGE

Simmons turned in one of Morehouse’s top pitching performances of the weekend in the Maroon Tigers’ 9-3 conference win over Clark Atlanta, working a seven-inning complete game in the scheduled seven-inning contest on Saturday. Simmons allowed just four hits and three earned runs, struck out four, and kept the Panthers off balance long enough for Morehouse to secure the series sweep on Saturday. At the plate as the designated hitter, he contributed by drawing two walks and scoring two runs in Sunday’s 17-14 win.
