Spring Hill Drops Opening Game at NCAA Regionals

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Spring Hill College softball team fell 1-0 to No. 1 Saint Leo University after being one-hit in the opening game of the 2026 NCAA Division II Softball Regionals this afternoon at the South Regional.  The Badgers are now 34-24 on the season, while the Lions are now 45-3-1.

Saint Leo grabbed an early 1-0 lead off an RBI groundout to the shortstop in the bottom of the first to start the game.

Spring Hill got its first base runner in the top of the third when Amanda Glowacki was hit by a pitch with one out. She ended the team's drought of not reaching base following the first two innings.  Unfortunately, back-to-back flyouts ended the inning.

The Badgers headed to the top of the sixth looking for their first hit of the game, while the Lions had three hits in the first six innings. Spring Hill ended the no-hitter when Destiny Pierce singled to third, giving the Badgers their first hit of the game.  She was then lifted for pinch runner Alli Mangan, who advanced to second on a wild pitch with two outs, but was called out for leaving early trying to take third, which ended the inning.

Down to their final three outs, Spring Hill's Meadow Villar reached first after being hit by a pitch to lead off. Abigail Christ came in to pinch-run for her, but a double-play ball got two fast outs.  Saint Leo sealed the game with a strikeout.

Starting pitcher Bethany Ahrens allowed one run on three hits over six innings to take the loss and fall to 13-12 on the season. She struck out two and walked two.

Pierce tallied the team's only hit, going 1-for-2, while Villar and Glowacki each were hit by pitches.

Spring Hill will play in an elimination game tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET against either the University of Tampa or Auburn University Montgomery.
