SAINT LEO, Fla. — The
Spring Hill College softball team's 2026 season came to an end in the NCAA Regional as the Badgers lost to fifth-seeded University of Tampa, 14-2, in Friday afternoon's elimination game.
Destiny Pierce was 2-for-2 with an RBI and
Amanda Glowacki was 1-for-2 with the other Spring Hill RBI.
Meadow Villar tallied the Badgers' only other hit as she wrapped-up her SIAC Player of the Year season with a 1-for-3 day.
Tampa took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. Spring Hill clawed one back in the bottom of the second inning as
Bethany Ahrens provided the first base runner of the game to lead off the inning.
Kayla Coley-Drayton pinch ran for Ahrens and moved over to second on
McKenzie King's sac bunt. Then, after Pierce singled to put runners on the corners, Glowacki singled to left to score Spring Hill's first run of the regional.
The short turnaround for Ahrens may have played a part in her start to the game as the junior was not as sharp against Tampa as she was against St. Leo yesterday, lasting just two-plus innings before being replaced. Her day temporarily ended with no one out in the third after Tampa hit a two-run home run to make it 4-1. Tampa added another three runs to make it 7-1 after three.
Then, after Spring Hill could not generate any offense following Villar's single, Tampa hit three home runs in the top of the fourth to make it 14-1 and put the game in run-rule territory. Pierce doubled to bring in King from first to make it 14-2, but she was thrown out at third trying to advance on the throw to the plate and then Glowacki lined out to end the inning. Ahrens came back in to pitch at the start of the fifth inning and posted a 1-2-3 inning, but Spring Hill couldn't add to their tally and extend the game as Tampa would move on with the 14-2 victory.
The Badgers finish the 2026 season with a 34-25 overall record and secured their third consecutive SIAC Tournament Championship.
