Benedict's Akins Named MVP of Minority Baseball Prospect Final College Showdown

MONTGOMERY, Ala.Benedict College sophomore outfielder Jaquez Akins was named the MVP of the second annual Minority Baseball Prospects Final College Showdown all-star game on Friday night.
 
Akins hit the game-winning single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the SIAC All-Stars a 10-9 victory over the HBCUAC All-Stars, in a game played at Paterson Field.
 
Akins went 2-for-3 in the contest, with a pair of singles. He scored two runs and drove in one run.
 
The contest featured an all-star team composed of players from the SIAC against an all-star team composed of players from the NAIA HBCU Athletic Conference.
 
Akins was a second-team All-SIAC outfielder this season. He hit .378 with 37 RBIs and scored 57 runs.
