FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Fort Valley State University Athletics proudly congratulates Wildcat legend and NFL champion Tyrone Poole on his induction into the prestigious Black College Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026.
Poole's induction is a fitting recognition of a remarkable football career that began at Fort Valley State, where he established himself as one of the most dominant defensive players in HBCU football history. His outstanding collegiate career paved the way for him to become the first first-round NFL Draft selection in Fort Valley State history when he was selected 22nd overall in the 1995 NFL Draft.
During his 13-year NFL career, Poole excelled as one of the league's premier defensive backs, recording 18 interceptions and helping lead the New England Patriots to back-to-back Super Bowl championships. His professional success never overshadowed his pride in his HBCU roots, as he consistently served as an ambassador for Fort Valley State and Black college football throughout his career.
"Tyrone Poole's induction into the Black College Football Hall of Fame is a proud moment for Fort Valley State University, Wildcat Nation, and the entire HBCU community," said Fort Valley State Athletics. "His journey from Fort Valley to NFL stardom exemplifies the excellence, determination, and championship mindset that define our institution. We celebrate this well-deserved honor and thank him for continuing to represent Fort Valley State with distinction."
Poole's legacy extends far beyond statistics and championships. As a mentor, coach, author, and advocate for student-athletes, he continues to inspire future generations while highlighting the rich tradition and impact of HBCU athletics.
On behalf of Fort Valley State University Athletics, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Tyrone Poole on this historic achievement. Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat.
