ATLANTA — The
Tuskegee women's volleyball team won two of three matches this weekend at the CAU Invitational, sweeping matches against the host Lady Panthers and Huston-Tillotson on Friday before dropping a contest against Livingstone on Saturday.
Camryn Lawson was the big hitter for the Golden Tigers, hitting .279 with 33 kills over the three matches while adding 40 digs and four blocks (three solo). She was a her best in three sweep of Huston-Tillotson (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) when she hit .444 with 13 kills, seven digs and two solo blocks.
Rae'ana Chastine hit .353 with eight kills,
Helena Pommeret added five kills, three service aces, and two solo blocks,
Chelsea Webb finished with 13 digs and
Ta'Mya Hicks had a team-high 12 assists.
Lawson had a monster effort in a tough win over CAU (26-24, 25-22, 25-23), posting a double-double (11 kills, 22 digs). Her kill in the opening set helped the Golden Tigers come back from set point by scoring the final four points of the set, the final coming on a block by
Jordyn Jones.
Najwa Williams also had 11 kills, four of them coming in the final set when the Panthers made a late run to try to stay in the match before
Ta'Mya Hicks finished the match with a kill.
Things did not go so well in the loss to Livingstone (21-25, 27-29, 22-25). Tuskegee served for the set in the second but could not close it out. In the final sed, the Golden Tigers led 22-19 but gave up the final six points as the Blue Bears finished the sweep.
Tuskegee is back in action on Tuesday when they host Stillman. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
