SIAC SPRING SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS
MEN’S & WOMEN’S TENNIS RECAP

Tuscaloosa, AL – The first day of Tennis competition during the SIAC Championships displayed domination by the upper seeds but sets up drama for the second round of SIAC action.
Fort Valley State 5 Stillman 0 (women)
Fort Valley State University was led by a stellar performance by their doubles team which propelled them to victory 5-0. The #1 Doubles team from Fort Valley State, Samantha Moxey and Brittany Campbel took the first victory of the day 8-6, defeating Stillman’s Andrea Adams and Ashley McCullough. Shemika Bonner and Esther Kabogo of Stillman was dominated by the doubles team of Ann Nwizu and Chantelle Chiles who took home the victory 8-0. The third doubles match was automatically awarded to FVSU giving them the victory due to a default. In singles action Stacey Lambert of FVSU received a defaulted victory giving FVSU a 4-0 lead. The only singles game that got under way was the #1 singles Andrea Adams (Stillman) vs. Samantha Moxey (FVSU) but was retired after Moxey jumped out to an 4-1 lead giving the Lady Wildcats the victory.
Benedict 5 Albany State 3 (women)
Benedict was led by Paola Lopez, Lauren Smith and Aniska Rolle who took matters into their own hands leading BC to a 5-3 victory. In doubles play Paola Lopez and Anna Lee Clarke took the victory 8-6 vs. Tonya Huggins-Vire and Traci Carswell in the #1 Doubles spot. Lauren Smith of Benedict and Aniska Rolle cruised to a 8-3 victory in the #2 Doubles spot over Diana Chira and Victoria Lockhart. Albany State bounced back and took the #3 Doubles match 8-2 when Carleeza Garrett and Domonique Green defeated Ayana Martin and Shani Jones. With a 2-1 lead going into singles play, Paola Lopez, Lauren Smith and Aniska Rolle of Benedict stepped up their game led their team to victory. Lopez won her match 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 over Tonya Huggins-Vire. Smith won 7-5, 6-1 over Traci Carswell. Aniska Rolle defeated Diana Chira 6-2, 6-4 for the deciding match. Albany State won the #5 and #6 singles as Victoria Lockhart defeated Ayana Martin 7-6, 7-3 and Domonique Green defeated Precious Bryant 6-2, 6-1. Benedict took the victory 5-3 eliminating Albany State.
LeMoyne-Owen 6 Stillman 0 (men)
LeMoyne-Owen took little time and allowed few points as they defeated Stillman 6-0 in all straight sets. Sergio Storr and Jihad Sharif (LMOC) defeated Bryan Walker and Carlos Shepard (SC) in the #1 Doubles spot 8-2. Thomas Hall and Tom Anderson (LMOC) defeated Howard Triplett and Jeremiah Carr (SC) 8-0 giving LeMoyne-Owen a 2-0 lead going into singles play. Thomas Hall, Sergio Storr, Jihad Sharif, and Tim Anderson gave up just 6 points and defeated their Stillman opponents 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 respectively. Stillman was eliminated from the tournament and LeMoyne-Owen advanced to play Tuskegee University.

Tuskegee won by default.
Clark Atlanta 5 LeMoyne-Owen 0 (women)
Led by the SIAC Player of the Year Simone Green, Clark Atlanta took home the victory and advanced to the quarterfinals of the SIAC Tournament in easy fashion. In Doubles Play Simone Green and Robyn McPherson (CAU) defeated Ariel Fox and Jessica Milchum 8-0. In the #2 Doubles Tara Turner and Tgrenda Starks (CAU) defeated Shadonna Tate and Chanel Davis 8-0. The third doubles was won by default by CAU giving CAU a 3-0 lead going into Singles Play. In singles play Simone Green (CAU) defeated Ariel Fox 6-0, 6-0. Shawndrea Brooks (CAU) provided the winning score defeating her opponent Jaquana Lynon 6-0, 1-0, giving CAU the 5-0 victory.
Tuskegee 5 Lane 0 (women)
Giving up just one set in the entire match, Tuskegee cruised to a 5-0 victory over Lane College. In Doubles play Tuskegee dominated with a 8-0 victory by the #1 doubles team of Saloma Shelton and Enola Dipueto. The #2 doubles team of Kamrila Triche and Charlotte Pullium allowed the only point but still defeated their opponent 8-1. The #3 doubles team of Avia Washington and Miliana Singletary took the victory 8-0. In singles play Kamrila Triche finished her match first winning 6-0, 6-0. Charlotte Pulliam also pulled out a quick victory giving Tuskegee the victory 5-0 when she defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Fort Valley State 5 Lane 0 (men)
Rounding out the SIAC first day of competition was a stellar performance by Fort Valley State who took home an easy victory over Lane College 5-0. In Doubles Play Andrew Felton and Carlos Vinas defeated L. Sutterfield and B. Gage of Lane 8-0. Darryl Foote and Desmond Watson defeated E. Ufot and J. Isom 8-0. In the #3 doubles spot Tommy Williams and Joshua Turner defeated J. Woods and P. Fisher 8-1. Singles play also was dominated by FVSU as Andrew Felton (FVSU) defeated L. Satterfield 6-0, 6-0. Desmond Watson wrapped up the first day of Tennis action with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over E. Ufot.
