MEN’S & WOMEN’S TENNIS RECAP DAY 2

In what was built as a great semi-final turned into a route as Fort Valley State feel to Clark Atlanta 5-1 in relative easy fashion.  Simone Greene (CAU) led the way both in singles play and in doubles.  In the number one spot in doubles Greene along with her partner Robyn McPherson, defeated Samantha Moxey and Brittany Campbell (FVSU) 8-3.  The second doubles match had the same result as Tara Turner and Tyronda Starks (CAU) defeated Ann Nwizu and Chantelle Chiles 8-2.  Fort Valley State took the third match in an overtime battle 9-8 as Morgan Reel and Shakela Jackson outlasted Tatiana Baker and Shaundra Brooks.  In singles play Simone Greene (CAU) dominated once again winning her match 6-1, 6-0 over Samantha Moxey (FVSU).  Tara Turner (CAU) also defeated Ann Nwizu (FVSU) 6-1, 6-0.  Tyronda Starks (CAU) sealed the deal as she defeated Morgan Reel 6-2, 6-3.  With the win, Clark Atlanta advances to the Championship Game against Benedict College.  Fort Valley State will play in the constellation game against Tuskegee University

Tuskegee took Benedict to the brink bout Benedict prevailed to advance to the Championship game.  Paola Lopez and Anna Lee Clarke (BC) took the first doubles match 8-6 over Tuskegee’s Salama Shelton and Eniola Dipuelo.  In the second doubles match Lauren Smith and Aniska Rolle (BC) defeated Kameila Triche and Charlotte Pullium 8-6.  Tuskegee took the #3 doubles 8-1 as Avia Washington and Miliana Singletary (TU) defeated Ayana Martin and Shani Jones.  With the score at 2-1, Benedict had to fight off a tough TU team.  Paola Lopez continued her domination in singles play defeating TU’s Salama Shelton 6-1, 6-1.  Lauren Smith (BC) also won her match 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Kameila Triche (TU).  Tuskegee would take the next game as Charlotte Pulliam defeated Anna Lee Clarke 6-4, 6-3.  Miliana Singletary of Tuskegee also defeated Precious Bryant 6-2, 7-5 to bring the score to 4-3.  With the game on the line Aniska Rolle defeated Eniola Dipuelo to give Benedict the victory advancing them to the Championship Game.  Tuskegee will face Fort Valley State in the constellation game while Benedict will face Clark Atlanta in the championship game.

            Morehouse 5              LeMoyne-Owen 0      (men)
Morehouse quickly dismantled LeMoyne-Owen 5-0 to advance to the Championship game.  In Doubles play Morehouse took the first and second games 8-3 and 8-2.  Stan Gross and Ben Seagle of Morehouse defeated Sergio Storr and Jihad Sharif in the first match.  In the second match SIAC Player of the Year Terrell Olagbegi and Anthony Parr defeated Thomas Hall and Tim Anderson.  The third match of doubles play was won by Morehouse by default.  In Singles play Stan Gross defeated Jihad Sharif 6-1, 6-1 to give MHC a 4-0 lead.  Kadir Carruthers propelled Morehouse to the Championship game after he defeated Daroyl Bell of LMOC 6-0, 6-0.  LeMoyne-owen will face Tuskegee in the constellation game on Saturday.  Morehouse moves on to play Fort Valley State in the Men’s Championship game.

Tuskegee played their first match of the tournament (won first round by default) but their lack of play during the first day of competition showed as TU fell to Fort Valley State 5-2.  Tuskegee took the first doubles match 8-5 as Eric Palmer and Kitzai Sithole defeated Andrew Felton and Carlos Vinas.  FVSU would answer the call taking the second match 8-1 when Darrell Foote and Desmond Watson defeated Jahari Wesson and Jeremy Shipp.  In the third match Tommy Williams and Joshua Turner defeated Zakeem Bryant and Miles Marner 8-5 to give FVSU a 2-1 lead going into singles play.  In Singles play Tuskegee took the first win 6-3, 6-0 in the #1 spot as Freshman of the Year Kitzai Sithole defeated Andrew Felton.  Fort Valley State would win the next three matches to lead them to victory.  Tommy Williams defeated Jahari Wesson 6-4, 6-1, Darrell Foote defeated Miles Narner 6-1, 6-3 and Carlos Vinas defeated Jeremy Shipp 6-0, 6-0.  With the win Fort Valley State advances to the championship game against Morehouse while Tuskegee falls to the consolation game to face LeMoyne-Owen.

            The Consolation games will be played at Bower’s Park in Tuscaloosa, AL starting at 10:00 am.  The Championship games will be played at 12:00 pm
