Morehouse College held their pro day for draft-eligible players on Monday with the biggest pro prospect, literally and figuratively, being mammoth offensive tackle Ramone Harewood.

Monday’s event drew scouts and personnel from nearly 20 NFL teams including the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Minnesota Vikings, who had their VP of Player Personnel Rick Spielman in attendance.

Harewood, who is a 3-time All-SIAC selection, has an impressive build at 6’6 341 pounds, which has many scouts intrigued by his potential at the next level. The Christ Church, Barbados native, who had been on the NFL scouts radar over the past couple seasons, really saw his stock soar after his dominant performance at the HBCU Senior Bowl practices in Montgomery, Alabama last December.

Other Morehouse players were able to put their skills on display including All-SIAC performer Achille Hendje, defensive lineman Jamal James and defensive back Randall Ward as well as former player Eddie Rowe.

Albany State quarterback A.J. McKenna was also present and worked out for scouts. McKenna, the SIAC Most Valuable Player this past season, really caught the eye of pro scouts with his impressive numbers this season along with his performances in postseason all-star games. The Scranton, PA native threw four touchdowns in two all-star game appearances including three in the East Coast Bowl. The New Orleans Saints, who ran McKenna through passing drills, seemed to show particular interest in the 6’3 231-pound signal caller.

The pro day was held at Decatur High School in nearby Decatur, GA, which has some of the best high school athletic facilities in the state of Georgia.

“It was another wonderful opportunity for the school and the community as well as the kids to see these guys with NFL aspirations,” says Decatur High athletics director Carter Wilson.

“If it motivates one of our kids to do something positive, it was well worth it,” Carter stated.

Wilson said, when contacted by Morehouse athletic director and Decatur High alum Andre Pattillo, he “jumped” at the opportunity to host the event. “Morehouse has been good to us, so we were happy to reciprocate the favor,” he said.

Harewood and other NFL prospects will be anxiously awaiting next month’s NFL Draft (April 22-24) hoping to hear their names called.
