Albany State to play Valdosta State in Softball Regional

The Albany State Lady Rams will to travel to Valdosta, GA this week to play in the opening round of the NCAA South Regional Softball Championship. The Lady Rams (38-23), who come in as the #4 seed in the South Region, will take on #1 seed Valdosta State (42-6) on Friday, May 14th.

Albany State will need contributions from key players including All-SIAC pitcher Sasha Reece and All-SIAC second baseman Deanna Birdsong as they look to upset the Lady Blazers. Birdsong, as you may recall, hit the walk-off home run against Fort Valley State that helped the Lady Rams claim the SIAC championship and this year’s automatic berth to NCAA regional competition.

Regional competition will be held May 14-16. Winners will advance to the super regional May 21-22. The finals will be held May 27-31 at Heritage Park Softball Complex in St. Joseph, Missouri and will be hosted by Missouri Western State University.
