TUSKEGEE, AL—Clark Atlanta University claimed the women’s title at the 2011 SIAC Cross Country Championship ran at the Macon County Road and Bridge Department in Tuskegee, AL.
The Lady Panthers ran a total time of 1:46:00.48 and an average time of 21:12.10 which was just enough to hold off defending champion Albany State University, who finished second with a time of 1:46:20.96, to earn their second title in three years. Clark Atlanta, which had four of the top 10 finishers at the meet, was led by sophomore Brittany Robinson, who finished in the third overall with a time of 20:56.58. Kentucky State University finished in third place.
Albany State senior Brittany Carter won the women’s individual title with a time of 20:10.81 and was named SIAC Most Valuable Performer of the women’s championship meet. Clark Atlanta’s Pamela Page was named SIAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.
For the regular season, Clark Atlanta swept the awards as Robinson was also named East Division Runner of the Year, Page was named East Division Coach of the Year, and the Lady Panthers were named East Division Team of the Year. In the west division, Kentucky State swept the regular season honors as Krisja Curlin was named West Division Runner of the Year, Markus Broussard and Fatimah Shabazz shared West Division Coach of the Year honors while the Lady Thorobrettes were named West Division Team of the Year.
Lauren Pennix of Claflin University and Chanel Chase of Miles College led the way on the SIAC Women's Cross Country All-Academic team with both having a 4.00 grade point average while Miles College earned the All-Academic Team Award.
Clark Atlanta will advance to the NCAA South Regional Meet, which will take place on November 5th at Tampa University in Tampa, FL.
