ATLANTA— The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announces the 2012 SIAC Preseason Softball All-Conference Team as voted by the SIAC Softball Coaches Association. The 2012 preseason team is led by Clark Atlanta senior pitcher Ashley Brooks and Clark Atlanta sophomore third baseman Elizabeth Handy.
Brooks, a native of Douglasville, GA, led the SIAC with three saves and was second in the conference with 17 wins. The 2011 SIAC Pitcher of the Year also finished with 110 strikeouts, which ranked fourth in the SIAC. Brooks, a two-time All-SIAC first team selection, was also one of the best hitters in the country, finishing second nationally in slugging percentage (1.106) and home runs per game (.40) while finishing tied for seventh nationally with 17 home runs, which led the SIAC. Brooks also ranked second in the nation with a .629 on-base percentage while batting .447 from the plate.
Handy, a native of Frankfort, DE, had a stellar freshman campaign with a conference-leading 17 home runs, which tied for seventh in the nation. The 2011 SIAC Freshman of the Year batted .436 from plate while leading the nation in runs per game (1.49), finishing fourth in home runs per game (.38), fifth in runs batted in per game(1.31), and eight in slugging percentage (.899).
Clark Atlanta University and Tuskegee University led the preseason team with four total selections followed by Kentucky State University with three total selections.
