Benedict's Jordan and Weber Named To Daktronics All-Region Baseball Team

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Benedict College’s Michael Jordan and David Weber have been named to the 2012 Daktronics Baseball All-South Region First Team, it was announced Thursday.

As first team members, both Jordan and Weber are now eligible for Daktronics All-America considerations.

A total of 30 student-athletes were named to the 2012 Daktronics Baseball All-South Region First and Second Teams. Jordan and Weber are the lone representatives from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

In total, 12 different schools have representatives on the south region team. The Sunshine State Conference led the way with eight first team selections and 16 overall.  Gulf South Conference schools recorded five first team honorees and 12 overall while the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference notched two first team spots.  Each first team member is now eligible for Daktronics All-America considerations.

Weber, a junior first baseman playing his first season for the Tigers, hit .446 at the plate. His batting average ranks sixth in NCAA Division II. He had 52 RBIs in 35 games, for an NCAA-best 1.49 RBIs per game. He also ranked fourth in the country with a .824 slugging percentage and third in on-base percentage of .567. He was named first-team All-SIAC.

Jordan, the SIAC’s Utility Player of the Year, leads all NCAA Divisions with an average of 1.83 stolen bases per game and with 66 total stolen bases. A senior shortstop, pitcher and outfielder, Jordan hit .380 at the plate. He was fourth in Division II with a .557 on-base percentage, and ranked fourth with an average of 1.06 base on balls per game.

Lynn University’s Anthony Boza was honored as the Player of the Year while Tampa’s Sean Bierman earned Pitcher of the Year recognition.

The second team squad team consisted of: C Justin Riddle (Alabama-Huntsville), 1B Ryan McChesney (Florida Tech), 2B Michael Schmidt (North Alabama), SS KC Clabough (Florida Tech), 3B Damon Elder (Tampa), UT Cory Jensen (Florida Southern), DH Christian Glisson (Valdosta State), OF Ty Chancelor (Alabama-Huntsville), OF Cameron Graves (Valdosta State), Jordan Chovanec (Delta State), SP Shawn Kale (Lynn), SP Zachary Westcott (Nova Southeastern), SP Joey Cuda (Eckerd), SP Aaron Newcomb (Delta State) and RP James Mannara (Florida Tech).

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.  Voting is done by NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
