Tuskegee University to host SIAC Centennial Cross Country Championship

ATLANTA— The 2013 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Centennial Cross Country Championships will take place Friday, October 25 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Hosted by Tuskegee University, the Men's and Women's Championships will be held at Macon County Road and Bridge Department (3636 Alabama Highway 199, Tuskegee, AL 36083), located minutes away from campus.

The SIAC Cross Country Championship will feature 25 men's and women's programs from 13 SIAC member institutions.

In the Men's Division, Morehouse College, ranked 8th in the latest USTFCCA DII South Regional Rankings, is the overall favorite to win its 5th consecutive SIAC Men's Cross Country Championship. The Maroon Tigers are anchored by the SIAC's top men's runner this season, Dahir Mohammed. Looking to challenge Morehouse will be Kentucky State's men's team led by runner Kieren Broussard. Albany State, Benedict, and Clark Atlanta University will also contend at the meet.

While there is no clear-cut favorite, the Women's race could go down to the wire, as at least four teams will be in the running for the coveted Women's Cross Country Championship Crown. Led by its talented runner Olivia Traylor, the defending champion Albany State Lady Rams will look to regain its crown.

Looking to challenge ASU will be Benedict College, who has the top runner this season, Jonnise Pierce, leading the way for the Lady Tigers. 2011 SIAC Champion Clark Atlanta, anchored by Markeshia Woodson, will also challenge for the title. The sleeper team is Kentucky State, which has a host of runners that can easily rise to the occasion.

The Women's race will start at 9 AM (CT), while the Men's race will commence thirty minutes from the conclusion of the women's race. For more information and results from the 2013 SIAC Cross Country Championship, visit www.thesiac.com.
