SIAC Legend Stallworth to be Inducted into Black College Football Hall of Fame

ATLANTA--The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced today former Alabama A&M great and SIAC Hall of Famer John Stallworth will be inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame.

Stallworth, will be one of seven new members inducted into the 2014 Hall of Fame Class, which is the fifth class enshrined into the Black College Football Hall of Fame, since its inception in 2010.
The inductees were selected from a list of 25 finalist who had been determined earlier by the Black College Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

Playing wide receiver at Alabama A&M, Stallworth, a Tuscaloosa, Ala. native, set numerous receiving marks in 1972 and 1973. He caught 103 passes, including 48 as a senior for 925 yards earning him two-All-SIAC selections. A fourth round draft pick for the Pittsburg Steelers in 1974, Stallworth had a decorated 14-year career playing for one of the NFL's most storied franchises. Stallworth, a speedy receiver, was a four time Super Bowl Champion and was named to the NFL's All-Pro team four times as well.

For his career, Stallworth caught 537 passes for 8,723 yards and 63 touchdowns, all Steelers records at the time of his retirement. In 2002, Stallworth was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was also inducted into the SIAC Hall of Fame and Division II Hall of Fame in 1998 and 2000, respectively.
The Selection Committee is comprised of black college football sports writers, analysts and commentators Roscoe Nance (Chairman), Donald Hunt, Ty Miller, Charlie Neal and Lloyd Vance former NFL General Managers Ernie Accorsi and Gil Brandt, long-time NFL scouts Charles Bailey and Charles Garcia, director of the Smithsonian‘s National Museum of African American History and Culture Lonnie Bunch, and historian Michael Hurd.

The Class of 2014 includes Stallworth, Robert Brazile (Jackson State University), Leroy Kelly (Morgan State University), Michael Strahan (Texas Southern University), Willie Totten (Mississippi Valley State University), Doug Wilkerson (North Carolina Central University) as player inductees and Marino Casem (Alcorn State University) as a coach inductee. 

These men will be honored at the Fifth Annual Enshrinement Ceremony, presented by the Atlanta Falcons on March 1, 2014. The event will take place at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia in conjunction with Black College Football weekend.
