SIAC Announces Football All-Conference and Superlatives
ATLANTA-The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2013 All-SIAC Football Team, Superlatives, and All-Academic Team today, as voted by the SIAC Football Coaches Association.
After a banner year, Lane College quarterback Chris Rini was picked unanimously as the SIAC Player and Offensive Player of the Year. The Key Largo, FL native capped off a remarkable season by passing for a conference high 2,926 yards and 29 touchdowns, while completing 256-out-of-374 passes. As a dual-threat quarterback, the 6-foot-175 pounder also rushed for 519 yards and eight touchdowns. Also the Dragons kicker, Rini connected on 28 of 32 point after attempts (PATs), in addition to his four field goals on seven attempts.
Albany State University All-American defensive back Dexter Moody was named SIAC Defensive Player of the Year. Moody, rated as one of Division II's top defensive backs, was all over the field this season and was the field general for the top defensive unit in the SIAC. The senior from Twin Cities, GA finished the season with 45 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a block punt, and three interceptions. He was also named Most Valuable Player of the SIAC Football Championship Game.
Frank Rivers, another Albany State Golden Ram, was named SIAC Newcomer of the Year. The Birmingham, AL native emerged during the final stretch of the season to lead the Golden Rams to the East Division Title and victory in the SIAC Championship game. As the team signal caller, the 6-foot-5 220 pound transfer from Grambling State finished second in the SIAC with 2,004 yards passing and 19 touchdowns.
SIAC Freshman of the Year was awarded to Clark Atlanta University running back Montavious Taylor. Taylor, a native of Atlanta, GA, made an immediate impact as the top rusher and scorer for the Panthers this season. The true freshman finished second in the conference in rushing with 730 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Miles head coach Reginald Ruffin was named SIAC Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons, after leading the Golden Bears to the SIAC Western Division Title this season.
