Atlanta, GA—No.1 Stillman College captured the school’s first ever SIAC Tennis Championship with a 5-3 win over No. 3 Benedict College in the 2013 SIAC Tennis Championship match played at the tennis courts on the campus of Morehouse College.
 
In a matchup that lived up to its billing, Stillman took an early advantage with a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches were played. The Lady Tigers were paced by its tandem of Litia Godinet and Veronika Kalugina, who defeated Benedict’s duo of Glory Zhou and Ester Zeyala (8-3). Stillman also picked up a win when its No.2 doubles team, Nair Tolomeo and Angela Corredor defeated Benedict's Glory Zhou and Belinda Camacho (8-5).
 
Benedict recovered when Jessica Carswell and Keneisha Whittington defeated Whitney Horner and Rosana Mederias (8-5) to keep the Purple and Gold Tigers in the match going into the singles matches.
 
During the singles competition, SIAC Women’s Player of the Year Godinet and All-Conference First Team selectionTolemeo won each match to give Stillman a 4-1 lead, but Benedict would not go down easy.
 
In the No.3 position, Zeyala defeated Kalugina (6-2, 6-2) in straight sets to make things interesting to cut the lead to 4-2, while three other matches were still being played. In the deciding match, Stillman’s Angela Corredor went the distance to defeat Benedict’s Vanessa Camacho (4-6, 7-5, 7-5) in a match that was a see-saw battle.

With the win, Stillman will received an automatic bid to the NCAA South Regional tournament.

Clark Atlanta recovered from its heart breaking semifinals lost to defeat Fort Valley State (5-2) to claim third place in the 2013 Women’s SIAC Tennis Tournament played at Morehouse College.
