ATLANTA--Albany State University received the SIAC Commissioner's Women's All-Sports Award for the 2012-2013 season, which is the ninth title for the program in 10 years.
For the second consecutive year the Lady Rams' athletic programs earned the trophy in a close finish. Albany State scored 34 points, which was three points more than runner-up Benedict, and six greater than third-place Clark Atlanta.
Albany State received the crown as the program picked up conference titles from its cross country and softball programs. The Lady Rams softball team became the first program in SIAC history to win a game in the South Region, as the team narrowly missed advancing to the Super Regional's. Albany State also received points from runner-up finishes in volleyball and track and field.
Benedict was a few points away from earning its first All-Sports Trophy in school history. The Lady Tigers won the programs first track and field championship in the spring, while earning runner-up finishes in cross country, basketball, and tennis this season.
Led by its volleyball and basketball team's championships, Clark Atlanta was awarded third place. Furthermore, the team also received third place points from its tennis and track and field programs.
The coveted SIAC Commissioner's All-Sports Trophy is presented to the athletic department within the conference that has excelled in both men's and women's sports. A scoring system of 10 points for conference titles, 7 points for runner-up finishes in championships, and 4 points for 3rd place is used to determine the All-Sports standings. Football is based on the results of the championship game and Men's & Women's Basketball, a single-elimination tournament, does not offer a consolation game.
