SIAC Announces Week 3 Players of the Week
 
ATLANTA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for the third installment of the 2013 SIAC Football Season as voted by the SIAC Sports Information Directors Association.
 
After leading his team to a victory over Elizabeth City State University over the weekend, Albany State University junior running back Adrian Alexander was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week, while SIAC Defensive Player of the Week was awarded to Fort Valley State University senior rover DeRon Furr.
 
A trio of Morehouse College players, true freshman quarterback Monquavious Johnson, sophomore offensive lineman Ajene Robinson, and senior running back/ kickoff returner Thomas Williams were named SIAC Newcomer, Offensive Lineman and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
 
 

Offensive Player of the Week

Adrian Alexander, Running Back, Albany State 
Class: Junior      Height: 5-10      Weight:  195      Hometown: Macon, GA    
 
Leading Albany State to its first win of the season, the junior running back rushed for a game-high 126 yards and a touchdown on only 10 carries in the Golden Rams 34-13 win over Elizabeth City State University. For the game he averaged 12.6 yards per carry and added a long run of 40-yards.
 
 
 

               
Defensive Player of the Week
Deron Furr, Rover, Fort Valley State

Class: Senior      Height: 6-1         Weight: 205       Hometown: Columbus, GA                        







 The senior had a game-high 17 total tackles and one pass break-up to propel Fort Valley State on defense which only allowed 188 yards of total offense to Clark Atlanta in the team's 12-9 victory over Clark Atlanta on Saturday.

 

 
Newcomer of the Week

Monquavious Johnson, Quarterback, Morehouse 
 Class: Freshman              Height: 6-1         Weight: 190       Hometown: Decatur, GA
 
Making his first career start, the true freshman completed 10-0f-18 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns and guided the Maroon Tigers to score 3-out-of-4 times in the Red Zone  to lead the team to their first win of the season with a 42-20 victory over Central State at the Chicago Football Classic.
 
 

Offensive Lineman of the Week

Ajene Robinson, Offensive Lineman, Morehouse
Class: Sophomore           Height: 6-2         Weight: 275       Hometown: Douglasville, GA

 
The sophomore anchored a veteran line that scored 42 points and gained 496 yards, without allowing a sack in the Maroon Tigers first win of the season over Central State. Robinson was also key, helping the team convert 9 of 14 third downs, and three red zone touchdowns in the red zone on four opportunities.
 
 

 
Special Teams Player of the Week

Thomas Williams, KR, Morehouse
Class: Senior      Height: 5-10      Weight: 185       Hometown: Knightdale, NC
 
Williams returned a 95 yard kickoff for a touchdown in Morehouse's 42-20 win over Central State.
 
 

Other Notable Performances in Week 2
 
LeRon Furr, LB, Fort Valley State
The senior All-American finished with 11 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for losses, and recovered two fumbles for the Fort Valley State defense.
 
Chris Rini, QB, Lane
The senior gunslinger has developed into one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in three games this season. In the Dragons 27-21 loss to Taylor University, Rini passed for a season high 369 yards and added 87 yards on the ground for three total touchdowns.
 
Bre'nard Williams, LB, Clark Atlanta
The All-SIAC linebacker finished the game with 8 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and interception.
 
Jamion Dunning, WR, Lane
The true freshman had a breakout game with eight catches for 100 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown reception for Lane.
 
Bernard Little, DE, Fort Valley State
Little disrupted many Clark Atlanta running plays and had 13 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for losses, and one forced fumble to lead Fort Valley State.
 
Sheldon Hamilton, RB, Morehouse
The senior rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries for a 5.7 yard average in Morehouse's win over Central State.
 
Ryan Latner, Punter, Albany State
Latner had a 40.5 average on four punts for a total of 162 yards. Latner had a long of 47 yards and nailed three punts inside the 30 yard-line.
 
Phillip Moore, Running Back, Albany State
Moore rushed for 91 yards on 14 carries to help lead Albany State to its first victory of the season.
 
Bradley Battles, Running Back, Clark Atlanta
Contributed for 126 yards of Clark Atlanta's 188 total yards on 95 yards rushing and 31 yards receiving for the Panthers in a tough loss.
 
Devon Mann, Wide Receiver, Morehouse
Mann caught two touchdown passes, including a game-breaking 74-yard touchdown reception. He had a five catches for 135 yards in the winning effort for the Maroon Tigers.
