Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University men’s basketball program has released its 2016-17 schedule, which includes, one opponent from the NCAA Division I level and non-conference opponents from three different NCAA Division II conferences. In all, the Panthers will have nine non-conference matchups and 12 home games.
Live pay-per-view streaming for select home games will be available via pay-per-view on the Claflin athletics website. Live stats for all games will also be available at no charge on the Claflin athletics website.
Claflin will open the season on
Friday, Nov. 11, at UNC-Wilmington out of the Colonial Athletic Conference. On
Tuesday, Nov. 15, the Panthers will open their 2016-17 home season versus Francis Marion. Claflin will then play its next six-of-eight contests at home including its annual homecoming game versus Fayetteville State University (
Saturday, Nov. 19).
“We’ve put together a competitive and tough schedule, especially with our non-conference opponents,” Claflin Head Coach Ricky Jackson said. “That portion of our schedule will enable us to be mentally challenged by playing in hostile environments on the road and preparing for SIAC play.
Jackson continued, “The teams on our non-conference schedule will provide us with the same kinds of challenges we will face when we head into conference play, good teams that shoot the ball well and play excellent defense.”
After the Francis Marion contest, the Panthers will travel to Augusta State on
Friday, Nov. 17 before hosting Fayetteville State for homecoming. The team will then play host to St. Augustine’s University (
Nov. 21) before Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play on
Tuesday, Nov. 29 when they host Central State University. Claflin will remain in conference play, hosting Kentucky State (
Dec. 1) and Lane College (
Dec. 3).
The Panthers will travel to St. Augustine’s University
December 10before returning home on
December 19 to Limestone.
Claflin will close out the 2015 calendar year at the Shaw University Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. the
December 28-29. The Panthers will face Livingstone College and host Shaw, respectively.
All Claflin home games are played at the Tullis Arena inside of the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center on the campus of Claflin University.
