SIAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

ATLANTA (April 11, 2017) – Cameron Starks (Kentucky State) was selected as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Player of the Week and Robert Troiano III (Benedict) was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
 
Starks, a 6’1 sophomore from Alpharetta, Ga. hit .545 last week for the Thorobreds (13-25 overall, 7-5 SIAC). Kentucky State faced Miles on the road last weekend where it went 1-2 against the Golden Bears. Starks played in all three games and recorded six hits including a triple, four RBI, and two runs. He was 2-for-3 at the plate in Saturday’s finale and 3-for-5 on Sunday. The Thorobreds visit Cedarville University on April 11 at 4 p.m. for a non-conference game.

Troiano struck out a career-high 15 batters in a nine-inning complete game victory to lead the Tigers (19-9, 9-3) to a 6-1 victory over Clark Atlanta on Sunday afternoon. Troiano, a 6’3 senior from Myrtle Beach, S.C. allowed just five hits and walked only one to improve to 5-0 on the mound this season. He helped his cause by going 2-for-5 at the plate with one RBI. The Tigers will take on Paine in an SIAC series beginning on April 14. The first game will be played at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Greenville, S.C. at Fluor Field as part of the Greenville Drive's annual Jackie Robinson Day festivities. Saturday's doubleheader will be played at Benedict's Tiger Field starting at 1 p.m.
