Golden Bears down Tuskegee in series opener

Xavius Burden and Reeves Brashear each drove in three runs and Dylan Johnson pitched a complete-game four-hitter as Miles remained undefeated in SIAC play with an 11-1 win over Tuskegee Friday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (18-14, 7-0 SIAC West) jumped on Tuskegee (6-20, 2-5) for seven runs over the first three innings and were hardly threatened thanks to another dominant performance from Johnson (5-3). He threw 100 pitches in his eight innings and struck out 10 hitters for the second straight start against no walks.

Burden opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first as the first four batters singled in the inning. After Tuskegee added a run in the top of the second, Brashear hit his third homer of the season - a two-run shot to left - to push the advantage to 4-1. Roderick Ransom, Brandon Conner, and Trevor Bates each drove in runs in the third and the Golden Bears lead was 7-1. Jacob Bisharat's run-scoring single in the eighth ended the game as Miles earned a run-rule victory.

The Golden Bears and Tuskegee will face off in a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
