Albany State Clinches 2018 SIAC Baseball Championship Title

ALBANY, Ga (May 6, 2018) – Albany State University won the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Championship on Sunday evening with a 19-2 win over Kentucky State at Albany State University West Campus in Albany, Georgia.
 
Albany State (28-16) earned the automatic berth in the upcoming NCAA Division II Baseball South Region Tournament set to take place May 17-21. The NCAA selection show will air on May 13 on www.NCAA.com.
 
Albany State recorded 12 hits from Riliani Familia and Nic Griggs who smashed three a piece while teammate, Trey McMiliian, finished with two.  Tyler Morris, Ryan McClendon, Chasen Roulhac, and Kelvin Wimbish each recorded one hit each. The Golden Rams secured their win as they opened the first inning with 12 hits.
 
Kentucky State’s (21-22) two runs came in the final stretch of the game and were scored by Justin Stinson and Brandon Story.
 
Albany State’s Tyler Wilcher, 5-3, pitched an impressive seven innings posting six strikeouts and only allowing two earned runs.
 
Albany State’s Tyler Morris was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. Joining Morris on the all-tournament team from Miles is Trey McMillian, Riliani Familia, and Michael Reddick.
