Tuskegee wins second straight White Water Classic

Tuskegee took over sole possession of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Saturday night with a 29-10 win over Lane College in the 6th Annual White Water Classic. The victory Saturday evening inside Garrett-Harrison Stadium at Trawick Field in Phenix City, Ala. improved TU's record to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.

TU scored on its opening drive when Arnes Huskic kicked a 21-yard field goal on an 11-play 76-yard drive to put the Golden Tigers ahead 3-0 at the 6:02 mark.

Phillip Brown scored his first touchdown of the season on Skegee's ensuing drive to put TU ahead 10-0. The Dragons would answer the score with a 16-yard TD pass as time expired in the first quarter to make the score 10-7.

On Lane's first drive of the second quarter, the Dragons snapped a punt over the head of the punter in its own end zone and the Golden Tigers earned a Team Safety to increase the team's lead 12-7.

Huskic connected on his second field goal of the game on a 39 yarder that took up nine plays for 31 yards, giving TU a 15-7, which is where the score would remain at halftime.

The Golden Tigers would pull away immediately after the break when Taurean Taylor scampered on an 18-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 22-7. A Christain Reyes field goal brought lane to within 22-10 with 6:30 to play in the third quarter, but Brandon Roberts would put the Dragons away for good when he picked off a Tarik McKinzie pass and returned it 42 yards for a score, putting TU ahead 29-10. It marked the third interception of the season for Roberts.

Steven Hodges led Skegee offensively with 73 yards on four catches. Franklin Montgomery paced the defense with eight tackles. Davoris Thomas and Darren Peterson earned seven stops each with Peterson notching two sacks and two quarterback hurries.

The Golden Tigers will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. next Friday to face Edward Waters in a non-conference tilt that starts at 6 p.m. EST.
